Mark Dickson

A central element of Marks’ work is uncovering the untold story within the very materials that form each sculpture. The metals he uses hold the poetry of memory—an echo of a former life, shaped by other hands for different purposes. He actively seeks out these materials, salvaged from the remnants of industrial and scientific processes, to give them new meaning and form. As a metal sculptor, he hears in these derelict fragments a quiet call to transformation. In reshaping them, there is a rediscover of their hidden identity. Through welding, forging, casting, hand shaping, and surface treatments such as etching, pigments, and patinas, each sculpture emerges as both a rebirth and a revelation. The work is deeply influenced by the art of ancient cultures and by the nameless artisans whose legacies endure through their creations. In honoring their spirit, the aim is to infuse every piece with depth, vitality, and passion. The work aligns naturally with a modern aesthetic, with many pieces retaining an organic sensibility, inspired by the patterns and rhythms of the natural world Marks’ sculpture is collected in public and private collections throughout the United States and in Quebec, Canada. He has work on the grounds of the Grammy Museum Mississippi, and in numerous private collections. He has been awarded public commissions including: Valdosta State University, Hyatt House Hotel, The Grand National Orlando and The FAMU History and Culture Trail in Tallahassee, Florida in addition to multiple others. Mark was born in the San Francisco Bay Area and raised in the foothills of Northern California. After traveling throughout the United States, he eventually settled in North Florida in 2001. For seven years, Mark taught sculpture as an adjunct faculty member at North Florida College in Madison, Florida. He maintains a working studio in the Arts District of Railroad Square in Tallahassee, FL.
